Obituary of Carlton P. Eno

Please share a memory of Carlton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Castleton- Carlton Paul Eno, 82, of Castleton, New York, passed peacefully into the presence of God on October 21, 2023. He was in his home, surrounded by people who loved him.

Carl was born in Auburn, New York, in 1941 to Paul and Helen Eno. As a child, he loved hunting, Boy Scouts, and summers spent at LeTourneau Christian Camp. He graduated from Cato-Meridian High School in 1958, and worked briefly for the Davey Tree Company before studying mathematics at Auburn Community College and Oswego State University. He later earned a master’s degree in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

While at Auburn Community College, Carl met his sweetheart and future wife, Patricia Sennett. They were married in 1964, and moved to East Greenbush, New York, eventually purchasing a home in the town of Schodack. In 1968, they welcomed their daughter Beth to the family, and their daughter Karen arrived in 1970.

Carl spent his entire career at Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York, teaching math and computer programming, coaching the golf team, and serving as treasurer of the East Greenbush Teachers’ Association. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in East Greenbush, sharing his musical gifts as part of the choir, serving on the board of trustees, and volunteering as church treasurer for 32 years. Carl was an avid outdoorsman, and holds the distinction of having climbed all 46 of the Adirondack high peaks not once, but twice! He also loved to be outside on the golf course, especially as a member of the Art Quinn Memorial Golf League. When the weather turned colder he took his pursuits inside as an accomplished bowler. Many a summer was spent at the family camp in Speculator, New York, enjoying loved ones and drinking in the beauty of God’s creation.

Carlton is survived by his wife, Patricia Eno, daughters Beth (Bruce) Simpson and Karen (Bradley) Murphey, sister Diane (James) Blosser, and nephews Nathan (Kathleen) Blosser and Timothy (Meghan) Blosser, as well as many beloved cousins and great nieces and nephews.

Carl’s family is grateful to the staff at NYOH, Albany Medical Center, and The Community Hospice for their care and compassion. In recent years, Carl relied on regular blood transfusions, so for those wishing to make donations, please consider giving blood or supporting the American Red Cross financially.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carl's family on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Castleton Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave. Castleton, NY 12033. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 am, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Horizon View Cemetery, Castleton. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
