Castleton-On-Hudson- James E. (Jim) Van Buren, age 80, died on Monday July 3, 2023, at Evergreen Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  He was born in Queens, NYC and was the son of the late Arthur and Helen Chambers Van Buren and stepson of the late Theodore Tompkins.  Jim Retired as Maintenance Supervisor with the Rensselaer County Sewer District where he was employed for more than 26 years before his retirement in 2002.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying model airplanes, camping, and spending winters in Port Orange, Florida with his wife Sharon.

Jim was the Cherished husband of Sharon Van Ort Van Buren for 55 years. Other survivors include his sister-in-law Deborah Haggerty (Daniel); nieces, Melissa (Richard) Groves, Amber (Steven) Shanholtz, Shannon (Michael) Worden; nephew, Daniel (Juliana) Haggerty and Goddaughters, Jennifer Platt Ure and Amber Shanholtz.  Jim also leaves behind good friends Stephen Larsen, Chris Lammerts and Wayne Van Amburgh.  He was predeceased by his sister Linda Van Buren Marchese and his nephew Anthony Marchese.

The family would like to thank Evergreen Commons for their care and compassion during the past month while Jim was there.
