Obituary of Douglas P. Gootz
Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas (Doug) P. Gootz, 68, died peacefully on October 31, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.
Beloved husband and father, he leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Patricia (Nancy) (Jones) Gootz; daughter Cassandra (Casey) (Gootz) Becker (David Becker); son Aaron Gootz (Heather Louckes); daughter Rebecca (Becky) (Gootz) Ingram (Mickey Ingram); son Justin Gootz (Rachelle Daus); two grandsons Xavier and Nyle Ingram; granddaughter Serinda Becker; brother Jack Gootz; two sisters Mary (Gootz) Marblo and Sharon (Gootz) Rounds; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Joyce (Gootz) Van De Wal and brother Robert Gootz.
Doug was born in Albany, NY to John Gootz and Marjorie (Peters) Gootz. He grew up in Castleton, NY and graduated from Maple Hill High School and attended the University of Munich and the University of Albany. He made a living as a machine operator at Crowley Dairy until retiring in the 90s.
Doug was an avid Giants and Yankees fan, had a passion for horse racing (So many systems!), and an intelligent idea man who could fix any car, plumbing or electrical problem with his magical tool box which always contained an ample supply of duct tape. He loved watching Cheers (Norm!) and A Christmas Story (You’ll shoot your eye out!) with family. He was always smiling and knew how to have a good time. A day hardly passed where he wasn’t working on a crossword puzzle (1 across; 4 letters; All around great guy—DOUG!)
