Peter, Kenneth A.

Newcomb, NY-Kenneth A. Peter, 77, of Newcomb passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Castleton, NY, Ken was the son of Walter F. Peter and Agnes (Bischoff) Peter. The love of Ken’s life was his devoted wife of 59 years, Frances G. (Diamond) Peter. Together they raised three children, Ronald (Joanne) Peter of Schodack Landing, Kim DenBesten of Porter Corners, and Eric (Annette) Peter of Loudonville and Newcomb. Ken was also the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Tyler, Marlena, Kenneth, Leo and Beau. In addition, Ken is survived by his sister Sally, his half-siblings, Jeff and Carry, and a special honorary member of the Peter family, Martin Kahler. Ken grew up on Peter’s Dairy Farm in Brookview, working the farm with his family and driving a milk truck before he was 13. After leaving the farm and school, Ken became a carpenter and ultimately built a highly successful business as a siding contractor, running the Kenneth A. Peter Aluminum Siding Co. for nearly 40 years. It was truly a family business. For many years, his wife Fran worked by his side as a cutter with her brothers Frank and Charles Diamond, and later their sons Ron and Eric. Ken was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and adventuresome spirit. He was an avid sportsman who lived to hunt, fish, and experience the great outdoors. Rarely seen wearing anything other than camo, he was known as a legendary whitetail deer hunter and traveled extensively throughout North America on big-game hunting and fishing trips. He shared his sense of adventure and love of nature with his family, when the kids were still young, taking them cross-country in a camper on an eight-week trip through the U.S. and Canada, all the way to Alaska. But Ken was most at home in the Town of Newcomb in the Adirondack Mountains, having a camp for many years on the Goodnow Flow before moving to Otter Pond, where he served as President of the Otter Pond Club for many years. In retirement, Ken and Fran enjoyed spending winters at their home in Key Largo, Florida, sport fishing, shrimping, and catching lobster. In summer, they loved fishing on the Little Salmon River and Lake Ontario. Ken’s was a life well lived. He will be missed, but never ever forgotten, by those who loved him. Calling hours will be Friday, December 8th, 4:00 -7:00 PM at Ray Funeral Service, 59 Seaman Ave. Castleton. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 1:00 PM at the Methodist Episcopal Cemetery in Newcomb, immediately followed by a gathering for family and friends.
