Studenroth , Zane Zell, Sr.

Chatham-Zane Zell Studenroth, Sr. died Thursday May 14, 2015 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.

Born on January 21, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He spent his youth summering in Lancaster with his mother's relatives. Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy. After graduating from Midshipman School he was assigned to the USS Rodman in December of 1943. His ship survived the D Day Invasion of Southern France. Called to the Pacific in 1945 during the invasion of Okinawa his ship was hit by Kamikazis. He was rescued from the water.

Upon discharge he pursued a career in teaching (Physics and Chemistry) in Haverford, Pennsylvania and Saratoga Springs. He resigned from teaching in 1959 and joined Foster & Adams in Troy and remained a stockbroker until his retirement.

He was an avid gardener. Other avocations included a restoration of the William Akin House. He was an active member of the Troy Chromatic Consorts as well as it's President.

He was predeceased by his wife Gladys and son Jeffrey Eugene. Surviving are his three sons Frank, Zane Jr. and Zachary. Also surviving are five grandchildren Jacob, Cohn, Jenny-Rebecca, Portia and Noah and one great grandchild Willow.

The funeral will be private.
