Zachary Nathan Goldstein, 34, of Castleton, died on June 23, 2018 after a sudden illness. His wife, Laurie S. Knaack, and his mother, Roberta (Zimmerman) Goldstein, were by his side.
In addition, he leaves his young son, Ari Steven Knaack Goldstein; brothers, Max Goldstein of Redmond, WA and Alex Goldstein of Bonney Lake, WA; in-laws, Leslie Sharkey and Jeff Knaack of Castleton; grandmother Barbara Goldstein; great-uncle Buddy Bert Neufeld; paternal aunts and uncles Deborah, David, and Leah and families; maternal aunts Mary, Karla, and Nancy and families.
He was predeceased by his father, Steven Ira Goldstein, and brother, Jordan Matthew Goldstein.
Born on April 20, 1984 in North Tonawanda, NY, Zack lived in Latham, NY and Baltimore, MD before moving to Castleton in 2012. After earning his B.S. in Applied Physics and Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he met Laurie and joined Sigma Phi Epsilon NY Delta, he went on to earn his M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.
Zack was a dedicated Senior Associate Computer Applications Programmer for the NYS Unified Court System Office of Court Administration, taking on mentoring of new team members and production system troubleshooting in addition to software development. In his early career he worked for Northrop Grumman on embedded software and on anti-tamper crypto system design and development.
All are welcome at a memorial gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton. In lieu of flowers, consider giving to Boston Children’s Hospital.
Zack shared many interests with Laurie including computer science, and board and video games; enjoyed reading and discovering with Ari; was a giving and patient mentor, partner and friend; straightforward, persistent, and always learning. WA2DRY, SK.
