They were the “Grandparents” in love to Dustin and Tiffany Jordan, children of their good friend Susan Jordan.
Employed at the Fort Orange Paper Mill, William left to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. A D-Day Veteran, he hit the beach at Normandy in the sixth wave and survived frozen feet, capture and being shot three times. Returning home, he and Joan were married and began their family. William stayed with the Paper Mill for the remainder of his employment until retiring at age 62. William was a member of Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church in Castleton. He was a lifetime Member of the Castleton Fire Co.; a member of the Rod and Gun Club; a member of the Castleton Boat Club; a member of the Castleton VFW for many years. A Long-time Yankee fan, William was an avid fisherman, enjoying family camping trips, hunting with his brother and spending time at his camp on Peck’s Lake in Gloversville, NY. He loved to go with his brother to the Basketball games at Maple Hill H.S. William was a Christmas fanatic, decorating his home, yard and anything else that stood still. He loved Christmastime. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ as well. William was Baptized in a total immersion Baptism at age 90 in his wheelchair in Peck’s Lake. He and Joan loved to travel, having enjoyed nine cruises as well as a European trip with their good friends, Sally and Rick Randall. He loved to reminisce about his extended family and the good times he had on his grandfather’s farm in Muitzeskill.
His Grandparents on his father’s side, Katherine and John Lebrecht, spent a lot of time with him working the farm. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
