Stanley W. Greg

August 5, 1926 — December 16, 2020

Greg, Stanley W.

Colonie-Stanley W. Greg, at 94 yrs old, “went to heaven" on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at St. Peter’s Hospital, as he had expressed in a wish a few days earlier; that he wanted to see his loved ones that had passed. We didn’t know his wish would be granted so soon. It was almost as if he made a reservation! He is joyfully with his first born son, "Little Stanley", who died as an infant at 11 months old on July 3, 1953. Time never diminished his love and loss for his cherished first baby, and lovingly spoke of him often and wondering "what kind of a man he would be”. His greatest wish now has come true as “Little Stanley” now rests cradled in his father's arms. What a wonderful metaphor as “Dad” is now cradled in the arms of his Heavenly and his earth given Father.
Dad was an over-achiever and very competitive in nature. Despite the sorrow of losing his first born, he had five more children in the span of 7 years. Mourning the loss and cherishing the memories of their dearest, most loving father is Terri Haywood, Rick (Judy) Greg, Mark (Denise) Greg, the late Diane Cerveny, and John Greg. He was predeceased by the sudden death of his youngest daughter, Diane in 2010 and his wife of over 50 years, Joyce (Wilson), as well as his siblings, twin brother John Greg, Stella Polsinello, and Jane Greg, as well as his parents Caroline and William Gregusewich. He was a Navy veteran. He was a pressmen for the Times Union and Knickerbocker Newspaper beginning in early 1950’s until his retirement.
Stanley and his twin brother (John) were born in Castleton –on-the Hudson on August 5, 1926. He enjoyed sports whether playing in high school or watching baseball and football on tv. Starting about 35 years ago up until a few years ago, he went to the gym until he was 90. At family gatherings, he found great joy in the competition between family members playing horseshoes and “corn hole”. Even this past summer, he didn’t want special considerations of standing closer, and he would revel in winning against all the younger family members.
He was a simple man, with simple tastes. Family and his love for them was the most important thing in the world to him. He had a dry sense of humor, and a twinkle in those blue eyes that would light up a room and let you know you were loved. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Grignon, David (Allison) Greg, Bradley (Savannah) Fischer, Rebecca (Trevor) Fischer, Diane (Aaron) Gagliardi, Jimmy Greg, Jordan Mulder, Kevin (Ashleigh) Cerveny and Sean (Grace) Cerveny. Great grandchildren, Ethan and Jaden Grignon, Ellie Fischer, Shelby Greg and Jordan Walters.
Services will be private at the family’s request.
