Bedell, Robert Nassau- Robert E. Bedell, 94 of Nassau, NY passed away May 23, 2022. He was born in Schodack, NY on October 5, 1927 to Horace and Eleanor (Bell) Bedell and was one of eight children.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey Diegel Bedell and daughter, Barbara Bedell Hughes. Bob is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Brian Boel) Bedell Wood; granddaughter, Caitlyn (Nathan) Fraser; great grandchildren, Henry, Clara and Miles Fraser. He is also survived by his sister Ida Bedell Bulan, several nieces and nephews and dear friend and “daughter” Colleen (Rick Schneller) Berman.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandpa and friend to all. He was a Korean War Veteran and took pride in serving his country. Bob was an excellent mechanic, starting at Mutterer's Chevrolet and ending his career at United Parcel Service where he worked for 32 years. In his younger years he enjoyed deer and turkey hunting but in recent years spent hours caring for the wildlife around “the farm”. As an avid gardener, he loved planting fruit and nut trees, not so much for his family but for the wildlife. Bob was always active whether it was taking care of his lawn and gardens, brush hogging adjoining sibling fields, helping out at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in East Schodack, or making his granddaughter's childhood special. He spent many weekends with his daughter Dawn enjoying their horses at local competitions and attended many dance recitals through the years for Dawn, Barb and Caitlyn. He enjoyed camping and fishing with family in the Adirondacks, especially Santanoni Preserve and Goodnow Flow in Newcomb. Bob was a dirt car racing fan at Lebanon Valley and a fan of several local drivers.
Bob had a great sense of humor and he enjoyed joking with his colleagues. He never complained and seldom asked for help. He was a kind and loving person; a true gentle-man.
The family would like to thank the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor and the loving at-home caretakers for the exceptional care they provided Bob. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Burden Lake Rd. East Schodack on Sunday, July 10 at 1:30PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in Bob’s memory can be made to Little Brook Farm in Chatham and may be mailed and made out to B.I.T.S. P.O. Box 127, Old Chatham, NY 12136.
