Richard Empie

Castleton-Richard H. Empie, 63, of Castleton passed peacefully surrounded by his family on November 2, 2017.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Emily (Cochrane) Empie, and adoring children, Matthew Dugan, Scott (Kristie) Dugan, Jodi (Todd) Dow, and Jamie Empie. In addition he leaves behind his siblings, Kenneth (Roslyn) Empie, Guy (Lisa) Empie, Joan Empie, and Julie Empie, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister's-in-law Patricia Dugan, and Karen Cochrane, Brother-in-law, William Cochrane, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews whom he adored.

Born in Niskayuna August 31, 1954, he was the son of the late Harlan R. and Joan C. (Farr) Empie. He was one of 9 children and was predeceased by his siblings Jay, Timothy, Diane, and Deborah.

Richard retired this past March from Mohawk Paper in Cohoes and was looking forward to spending his days doing all the things he loved most. He was all set for his first full winter in Florida. He loved golfing, boating and fishing in Florida, and visits from his son to NY for hunting. He was very active and always working on a project. He could often be found working in his yard with his best buddy "Alex" never far behind. He was the life of every party and was always able to put a smile on your face. Richard had a devotion to his family unlike any other.

The Empie family would like to give the wonderful staff at St. Peter's a heartfelt thank you for the care and comfort they provided to Richard and his family during an extremely difficult time. Mostly, Patrick and Paul who provided round the clock care to not only Rick but his wife while in the ICU.

Calling hours will be 4-8 pm Monday November 6, 2017 at Ray Funeral Home 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton. His graveside service will be 11 am Tuesday November 7, 2017 at New Sacred Heart Cemetery S. Old Post Rd., Castleton, NY.
