Shortsleeve, Raymond Abram

Albany-Raymond Abram Shortsleeve, 83, died at Albany County Nursing Home Tuesday March 10, 2015 as a result of complications from Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson Disease. He endured his illness with courage and dignity. Ray was a good man, he always did the best he knew how.

Ray was born in 1932 in Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, the youngest child of Blanche Tessier Shortsleeve and William J. Shortsleeve. He was predeceased by his oldest son, Larry, in 1975 and his siblings William J. Shortsleeve, Jr., Blanche Yates and Leonard Shortsleeve.

Ray graduated from Castleton Union Free High School in 1950. He married his wife Evelyn in May of 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Castleton-on-Hudson. They moved to Guilderland in 1961 and lived in the same house for over 50 years. He worked as a route salesman for Freihofer Baking Company for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was a faithful communicant of St. Margaret Mary’s Church(now All Saints Catholic Church) for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn; children, Catherine (Virgil) Sager, Marie Unson, Joseph (Joyce) Shortsleeve and Sarah Shortsleeve; grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Sager, William Sager, Jennifer Smith and Leila (Michael) Mosher; great grandchildren, Christopher Sager, James Bouton, Jr., and Arianna, Johanna, Xavior and Xandor Mosher; Ray adored his grandchildren, Miky, his Dolly and his Angel-they remained devoted to him to the very end. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Lillian Shortsleeve and family of Castleton-on-Hudson and Judith Shortsleeve of Oregon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his hometown at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton, NY Saturday March 14, 2015 at 10:00 am. Following the Mass, he will be buried next to his son Larry in Mountain View Cemetery, Castleton. Calling hours will be 4-6 pm Friday March 13, 2015 at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton.
