Jones, Peggie B.

Schodack-Peggie B. Jones passed into eternal rest on
June 4, 2015 after a long illness. She was born on
November 18, 1929 in Pittsfield, VT, the daughter
of Mildred (Fifield) and Desmond Burr. She
graduated from the former Classical High School
in Providence, RI.

She lived much of her adult life in the
Poultney, VT area, where as a young single woman,
she assumed the role of guardian to her brother and
thereafter to her nephew.

On June 26, 1954 she married Stanley J Jones, and
they lived in the Poultney area until his death in 1984.

Peggie was active in the community , including: being a
Past President and member of the Poultney Woman's
Club; Past Matron and member of the former Poultney
Order of the Eastern Star; being a member of the former
Ladies Shrine of Rutland, Vt,; and a member and Elder
in the Poultney Welsh Presbyterian Church.

Peggie devoted many, hours and much energy
to her beloved Poultney Rescue Squad for 15 years . She
was a life member and past President of the Rescue
Squad and was very proud to have been
the first woman in VT to be certified as an EMT and
later the first woman in VT volunteer service to attain
EMT- IV certification. She also enjoyed her service as
the Squad Training Officer. In the latter capacity she was
the first trainer not employed by the State to organize
and supervise an EMT course in VT.

After the death of her husband, she moved to the
Schodack , NY area to live with her son, where she
enjoyed flower gardening and being both a babysitter
and an honorary grandmother to many children in her
neighborhood.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, her
parents and her siblings, Renah, Frank, Irene, Wilbur,
Wilma and Elmer.

She is survived by her son, Stanley J Jones of
Schodack, NY; nieces: Sheryl Scizmadia (David) of
Sanford, Maine; Joan Wilson (David) of Hot Springs,
Montana; Linda McDonough (Thomas) of Medford,
Oregon; Christine Partch of Granville, New York;
Judith Brownell (Mark) of Castleton, Vermont; and
Patricia Devino of Poultney, Vermont; nephews John
Hargreaves (Judy) of Sauquoit, New York and Jeffrey
Jones (Anita) of South Carolina; her dear friend and
neighbor of many years Emilia Komaromi; and the
many children in her neighborhood for whom she
enjoyed serving as an honorary grandmother.

Services will be held at the convenience of the
family.
