Castleton – Paul Kennely Albertine, of Castleton-on-Hudson, passed away June 10, 2016, at Albany Medical Center. Paul was born on July 14, 1931 in Troy, NY to the late Paolo and Lulu Albertine. He attended school in Troy from 1938 until 1946, and graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush in 1950.
Following three years of service in the New York Army National Guard, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952, and served during the Korean Conflict, stationed aboard the USS Ruchamkin in Little Creek, VA. Paul met the love of his life, Joanne Bennett, at Bea’s Diner in Schodack, just after he finished boot camp. They dated while he was active in the service and were married June 30, 1956, 4 months after his Naval discharge. Paul worked for the State of New York Department of Transportation in various capacities as an Materials Technician, retiring on May 30, 1994.
Paul was very active in the Castleton community, volunteering with organizations: serving as Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts Troop #53; Castleton Fire Company, as Financial Recording Secretary, where he was a lifetime member and also had the honor of sharing the Firemen of the Year award in 1993-4; Castleton Kiwanis Club, where he held the posts of 2nd Vice President (1982), President (1983-4), Secretary (1986-04), and Lt. Governor of the Van Rensselaer Divisions (1992-3). In addition, Paul was also a lifetime member of the East Greenbush Elks, Peter Andrews #7337 Post VFW, American Legion Melvin Roads Post #1231, and the National DESA (Destroyer Escort Sailors Association).
In his free time, Paul enjoyed building his coin and stamp collections, as well as watching war movies. He also enjoyed spending summers with his loved ones in Onset, on Cape Cod, at the family cottage. Paul and Joanne enjoyed spending time together traveling around the country. Together, they visited Colorado, Alaska, across New England, and to Florida to visit their good friends Jane and Ken VanPraag. They also traveled to eight Kiwanis national conventions to cities such as Denver, Washington, DC, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, Montreal, Nashville and Las Vegas.
In addition to his loving wife, Paul is survived by his children, Cynthia (Dennis) DeLisle and Paul D. (Darleen) Albertine, both of Castleton. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Amanda (Andrew) Wheeler, Elizabeth (Brent) Wilson, Paul David (Michele) Albertine, Daniel (Nicole) Albertine, Jenna (Christopher Wagner) Albertine and Dustin (Brooke) Albertine, and three great-grandchildren, Hanna, Gus and Madison. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Henderson, of Michigan. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Elaine (Buzz) Loper, Rhoda Navarro and Pauline Clark. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his brother, John “Jack” Albertine.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY 12033. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY 12033. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Paul’s name to the Castleton Volunteer Ambulance Squad, 1700 Brookview Rd, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY 12033. Paul was a man dedicated to giving back to his community by volunteering; these are some of the other organizations that were near and dear to his heart: USS Slater, Castleton Fire Department, Peter Andrews #7337 Post VFW, American Legion Melvin Roads Post #1231, Castleton Kiwanis, Castleton Boy Scouts of America Troop #53, and East Greenbush Elks.
