Britt, Michael Kearney
Castleton-Michael Kearney Britt, 57, born in Poughkeepsie, November 26, 1958 entered into eternal life February 4, 2016 after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Mike graduated from Maple Hill High School in Castleton and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He often provided assistance to fellow veterans. Mike was a member of the Castleton Ambulance and Sacred Heart Church. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years, during that time he developed many friendships, helped many people on his mail route with projects and had a genuine interest in seeing the neighborhood children succeed.
Mike's diagnosis raised awareness for ALS and he was an active participant in fundraisers for the St Peters Regional ALS Center. A fundraising group called, Stay Strong #20 has raised a significant amount of money for the center in Mike’s honor. Team Stay Strong #20 will continue on Mike’s behalf with the ultimate goal to find a cure for ALS.
Mike was a true gentleman, friend to all and the heart and soul of his family. He was the loving and devoted husband of Donna Leonard Britt for over 30 years, father to Richard Britt; Andrea Cavagnaro (Dave) and grandfather “Poppy” to three grandsons, Trevor, Cody and Aidan. Mike also leaves behind his parents, Edward and Marge Britt; brother James Britt (Leslie); sister Susan Capone (Paul); nephews Michael Britt, Liam Britt and Nathan Capone; mother and father in law George and Rose Leonard. Michael's favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family, especially his three grandsons. Poppy was and will always be their #1 fan.
The Britt family would like to thank all of their family and friends for their support throughout Mike’s battle with ALS, especially Trish O’Keefe, Dr. Miller and the PALS in the support group. In addition, a special thank you to Sheryl Fowler, Elizabeth Hanlon, Kim McClintok, the blue team at the VA Hospital, Karen Spinelli and all the employees at the St Peters Regional ALS Center.
