Castleton- Lillian R. Shortsleeve age 96, of Castleton passed away on December 29, 2022. Lillian was born in NYC on January 2, 1926. She was the third daughter of Samuel and Mary (Malanczuk) Rohr. When Lillian was a baby, they moved from NYC to East Nassau where her parents operated a farm on Tsatsawassa Lake Road. They then moved to East Greenbush and finally settled in Castleton. Lillian married William J. Shortsleeve in August 1948. She worked at the Fort Orange Paper Company in Castleton for 30 years before retiring in 1988. Lillian is survived by her daughter Maryanne Syvertsen of Castleton and her son John (Lori) Shortsleeve of Castleton, her four grandchildren, Jennifer Syvertsen (Alex Smith), Kevin Syvertsen, Rebecca Zerrahn (Nathan), and Michael Shortsleeve (Carolyn). She is also survived by three great grandchildren Renee Kodra, Gabriel and Jacob Zerrahn, her sister-in-law, Evelyn Shortsleeve and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life, William J. Shortsleeve in 1978. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Rose Mann, and Helen Keyer. The family is grateful for the care and compassion the staff of Van Rensselaer Manor on B-2 unit provided to our mother for the past 5 ½ years. Funeral service will be held at the Castleton Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Avenue, Castleton on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 9:30AM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Castleton following the service.
