Bulan, Joseph D.
Schodack-Joseph D. Bulan, 89, passed quietly at his residence with his family at his side on Sunday September 8, 2013.
Born in Richmond, VA, he had been a Schodack area resident for over 80 years. Coming from a large family, he along with his siblings worked very hard on their parents farm in Schodack. He served as a U.S. Army veteran in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. After returning from War, he operated Muldowney’s Tank and Truck Repair in Rensselaer for 50 years, retiring in the late 1990’s. In retirement, he cared for his wife and tended to a large vegetable farm which he shared with many in the community. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, East Greenbush.
He was the husband of 64 years of Ethel Barnhart Bulan who passed in 2010. He is survived by sons, Dennis C. (Barbara) Bulan and Garry R. (Dawn) Bulan; sisters, Ruth Drischler and Esther Graboritz; grandchildren, Crystal (Paul) Greklek, Daniel (Stephanie) Bulan, Nichole (Khoury) Bennett, Melissa Bulan, Jeffrey (Yamaris) Bulan, Jeremy Bulan and Taylor Bulan; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be 12 noon Thursday September 12, 2013 at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, NY. Family and friends may call at the funeral home before the service Thursday from 10:30 am to 12 noon. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either First United Methodist Church, 1 Gilligan Rd., East Greenbush, NY 12061 or Home Medical Associates, 1737 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12309, in memory of Joseph D. Bulan.
