Joan M. Schermerhorn

Joan M. Schermerhorn 86, of Schodack Landing passed away on December 30, 2021 at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Joan was born on August 14, 1935, daughter of the late Elbertus and Edna Drost and lived her entire life in Schodack Landing. Joan graduated from Castleton High School and worked as a media aide at Maple Hill High School. She also worked many years at Sterling Winthrop Research Institute where she retired. Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years Wayne Schermerhorn; sons, David (Cindy), Brian (Brenda); grandsons, Nathaniel and Michael and granddaughters, Maria and Hannah; sister, Shirley Donvito as well as niece and nephew, Debbie and John Donvito. Joan was devoted to her family and friends. She loved to cook and took great care of her home and garden. She was a life member of the Schodack Landing Ladies Auxiliary. Her life impacted many and she will be missed. A special thanks to the many caregivers at Van Rensselaer Manor for their tireless care and compassion.
