Castleton-Gerda L. Knapp, 86, died peacefully at her residence with her family at her side on Saturday March 27, 2021. Born in Germany, the daughter of the late Karl and Luise Leyh, she was also predeceased by her sisters Elfriede Leyh and Johanna Hemming. Along with her sister Hilde, Gerda came to America in 1958 settling in Westerlo. She met her future husband while learning English in Albany. They were married May 11, 1963.
Gerda is survived by her husband of 57 years, Reinhold F. Knapp; daughter Sylvia Stutz; son Peter Knapp (Gisela Demant); grandchildren Lars and Misha; siblings Hilde Fuertges, Annelise Schneider, Karl Leyh; and several nieces and nephews.
