Skiff, Florence L
WATERVLIET— Florence Louise Skiff, 91, passed away peacefully in her home in the afternoon of Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Born in Orange, New Jersey on October 28, 1929, she was the daughter of John C. and Eleanor C. (Grout) Schelleng and the first wife of Dr. J. V. Skiff.
A graduate of Asbury Park High School and Cornell University, she raised her family in Castleton-On-Hudson while assisting in the running of Dr. Skiff ’s family practice, first as X-ray technician, then as bookkeeper. In later years she was a secretary for the Methodist Society in Albany and the First United Methodist Church in East Greenbush where she was an active member for many years.
Florence is survived by her four sons William (June), Frederick (Janet), James (Toni) and Thomas (Lan) Skiff, and her daughter Ellen (James) Hogan. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Florence had many interests but her two biggest loves were gardening and music. She was a longtime member of the Sanctuary Choir at her church and she was frequently called upon to play on the piano or organ. Ever learning and ever pursuing multiple hobbies, she had a garden wherever she lived.
A heartfelt thank you to those at her church who continued to keep her in touch throughout the isolation of the pandemic. A memorial service will be held at the East Greenbush First United Methodist Church Saturday June 5, 2021 at 1 pm.
