North Greenbush- Eileen M. Hempstead, 88, of Eastwyck Circle passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 21, 2024. Eileen was born in Albany to the late Mildred (Champagne) and Frederick O'Keefe. She spent many years living in Castleton with her late husband, Donald Hempstead. Eileen's true love was time spent with children, which she was able to do as a longtime administrative assistant at Maple Hill High School. She truly loved the daily interaction she had with her students. Eileen was a devoted New York Yankees fan, whom some would call the "#1 Yankees Fan." She loved to go to dinner and a show with her friends from Eastwyck, whom she adored. In recent years, her sight was taken from her, but she never complained. She was always positive and continued to enjoy her independence.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Hempstead; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Dawn Hempstead; her brother, Donald O'Keefe; and her sister, Rita Reickert.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Marilyn Gomeau) Hempstead; her grandson, Jeremy Hempstead; her nephew, Brian Hempstead; her niece, Lynn Reickert; and her brother-in-law, Russell Reickert.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Eileen's family on Friday, July 26, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at the Castleton Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave. Castleton, NY 12033. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 27, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Eileen's cremains will be inurned in Horizon View Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elieen's memory to the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company, 181 Cross Rd, Clarksburg, MA 01247.
