Obituary

Edward James ‘Ed’ Britt, 86, died peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018, from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Rockville Centre, NY, March 1, 1932. He was the son of Eugene and Madeleine Smith Britt. Ed attended high school at South Side High School in Rockville Centre, NY. While married with three children, he worked full-time while also earning a Master’s Degree in Education from SUNY, New Palz.

Ed joined the US Navy in May 1952 and served for two years. On November 19, 1955, Ed married Margaret ‘Marge’ Kearney in Tuxedo, NY.

Ed lived a remarkable life, supporting a family while achieving success in three different careers. Ed is well known for his life-long dedication to providing help and support to family, friends, colleagues, and anyone in the community needing help.

He was a Principal in the East Greenbush, NY school district for 30 years, followed by a second career as an adjunct professor at St. Rose University, and then ended his long career selling real estate in the region.

Predeceased by his sisters Madeleine Britt in April, 2011 and Margaret ‘Peg’ Britt in March 2012, and his son Michael Kearney Britt in February 2016, Ed is survived by his wife Marge,one sister, Mary Alice Duckers of New Jersey; one brother Joseph Britt and his wife Eileen of Florida; his daughter Susan Britt Capone (Paul) and son Jim Britt; his daughter-in-law Donna Leonard Britt;

five grandchildren Rick Britt, Andrea Britt Cavagnaro (Dave), Nate Capone, Michael and Liam Britt; three great-grandchildren Trevor, Cody, and Aidan Cavagnaro; and nieces and nephews Mary, Stephen, Maureen, Amy, Bob, Rick, Joanne, Patrick, Tim, Jack, and Jean.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday August 25, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton, NY. A small reception will follow immediately after the service.
