Hempstead, Donald E.

North Greenbush-Donald E. Hempstead, 81, formerly of Castleton, died peacefully at Evergreen Commons on Wednesday March 29, 2017. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Bertha (Van Amerongen) and Lawrence Hempstead and was also predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Dawn Hempstead and a brother Raymond Hempstead.

Don was a 1953 graduate of Castleton Union School. After a brief time of work at the Fort Orange Paper Company, he entered and graduated from Albany Business College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and served until 1960. He was employed by Mobil Oil in Albany for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He had his own painting business until 2008.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 yeaars Eileen Hempstead, his son Kevin (Marilyn) Hempstead and grandchildren Brandi Hempstead and Jeremy Hempstead.

The Eastwyck community and friends are invited to calling hours Sunday April 2, 2017 from 11 am to 1 pm at the W. J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, NY.

Calling hours will continue at the Ray Funeral Home 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, NY Sunday evening from 4-7 pm.

Funeral Service will be private at the convenience of the family.
