Deborah L. Haggerty

August 17, 1957 — August 18, 2024

Deborah Lynn Haggerty, born on August 17, 1957 to Garry and Marie Johnson VanOrt, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on August 18, 2024, after a courageous battle against leukemia.

Debbie graduated from Maple Hill High School (Class of '75) and married the love of her life Daniel Patrick Haggerty on September 25, 1976. Together they raised three children, Amber (Steve) Shanholtz, Shannon (Michael) Worden and Daniel (Juliana) Haggerty. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Ariana and Elijah Shanholtz, Nolan and Annie Worden and Ava Haggerty, her sister, Sharon (late James) VanBuren, brothers-in-law Robert (Nancy) Haggerty, William (Diane) Haggerty, Patrick (Joanne) Haggerty and sisters-in-law Diane (Tomás) Acosta, Eileen (Robert) Mielewski and Ellen Mazur (George Barna), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Debbie was a devoted wife, mother, and Mimi. Her greatest joy was sharing laughs and creating memories with her children and grandchildren. She loved having her family gather together and made sure every birthday and holiday was unique and special. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her delicious cookies.

Debbie made many friends working for the NYS offices and as one coworker stated, she's the most real person you'll ever meet. She was truthful, honest, compassionate, loving and people sought out her opinion and advice. She had a lifelong fascination with numbers and an amazing memory of birthdays and phone numbers of friends and relatives.

Debbie and Dan were high school sweethearts and enjoyed a wonderful married life. Their 48 years together were filled with many laughs, cocktails and fun times. Each year they ventured to different beaches and loved the sunshine, surf and sand. They traveled to numerous tropical islands and in retirement, several of the national parks.

The family would like to thank the D4N staff at Albany Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, NYOH, and The Community Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Debbie's family on Thursday, August 22nd, from 4-7 pm at Castleton Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Avenue, Castleton, NY 12033.
