Brewer, C. Edward

Castleton-C. Edward (Pop) Brewer, 80, passed away on Thursday September 1, 2016 with his family by his side.
Ed was born on November 21, 1935 in Houlton, ME to Clarence and Leitha Brewer. They relocated to Castleton in 1951. Ed was married to Theresa (Pasqualitti) Brewer for 49 years until her passing in 2001.

Ed began his career as a bell hop at the De Witt Clinton Hotel. He moved onto the United Stated Postal Service in Castleton and was a rural letter carrier for 37 years. During this time, Ed worked numerous jobs to provide for his family including digging graves by hand at local cemeteries for 27 years and as a salesman for Valente Memorials. Following his retirement, he worked for the Town of Schodack and at Castle Hill in Castleton.

Ed was a member of the Kiwanis, Jaycees and a 16-year member of the Castleton Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and cherished the time spent at the Castleton Seniors gatherings.

Ed is survived by his children - Ed (Aida) Brewer, Gloria (Bruce) Rogers, Tony (Pam) Brewer, Vincent (Sue) Brewer and Sharon Martin; his brothers - Donald (Betty) Brewer and Tiger (Debbie) Brewer, his sisters - Mary Ann Prince, Carol (Al) Sinclair and Sue Miller. He is also survived by his grandchildren - Vincent (Lisa) Brewer, Krissie (Derek) Boston, Nick (Kelly) Brewer, Matt (Mara) Brewer, Theresa (John) Polson, Melanie (Chris Keenan) Brewer, Brian (Sarah) Brewer, Chris (Catey) Brewer, Greg Brewer, Michael Martin and Andrew Martin; his great grandchildren – (Landon, Gianna & Eyla) Boston, (Joshua, Bailey, Hunter, Reed, Avery, Evan, Lucy, Evie & Victoria) Brewer, (Jacob & Anthony) Polson. He was predeceased by his brother, Mike.

Ed’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the numerous caregivers that took care of him over the years and especially acknowledge Cindy, Joyce, Janice and Judy for the care and compassion they provided to Pop.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Ray Funeral Service, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, NY 12033. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton, NY 12033. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.
