Axtmann, A. Joyce

Castleton-A. Joyce Axtmann, 81, died Thursday May 21, 2015 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Cooperstown, NY on September 19, 1933, daughter of Anthony and Alice (Hotaling) Finkle, she spent most of her time in Castleton, graduating from Castleton Union School in 1951. She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant for a number of firms around the Capital Region, retiring in 1995.

Joyce and her late husband Chuck shared a love of the Adirondacks and enjoyed camping and canoeing for years. She was active in Village affairs and volunteered at Castleton Elementary School.

She loved her family above all, and was a tireless cheerleader for her grandsons’ athletic events.

She was beloved by her family and countless friends, and will be missed by all.

Survivors include son Rusty (Carme) Axtmann, daughter Cynthia Tomaski, grandsons Leland and Garrett Axtmann, brother-in-law Terry (Michele) Axtmann, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours from 10 am to 12:30 pm Saturday May 30, 2015 at Ray Funeral Home, immediately followed by a service in celebration of Joyce’s life. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Scarnato’s Restaurant following the service.
